On wednesday evening last 29th August 2012 Coolmeen claimed back to back titles at this grade with a hard earned but fully merited victory over Naomh Eoin on a scoreline of Coolmeen 0-10 Naomh Eoin 1-6.
It may be a cliche but this game was very much a game of two halves and this was down to the windy conditions which prevailed at Shanahan Mc Namara Memorial Park in Doonbeg. The men from the peninsula played with the elements in the first half and by half time had built up a very healty advantage and went into the dressing room at Half Time leading on a scoreline of Naomh Eoin 1-5 Coolmeen 0-0.
On the restart Coolmeen dominated proceedings and with the accuracy of Sean Wallace from frees and from play they began to eat into the lead of the Naomh Eoin men and once they got sight of silverware they werent going to relinquish the opportunity and they duly held on for a one point victory which was very sweet indeed.
John Murphy and John Wallace have made great strides over the past couple of years with this bunch and have put in an incredible amount of time with these young lads all year. Most of these lads were involved with the u16s who were pipped in the county final earlier in the year. Gary Meaney and Cian Murphy who are members of the U16 team also helped out with training and the preparation of this team. Congrats to all involved. Ni Neart go cur le cheile.
