Coolmeen defeated Liscannor in the Div 3 Football league 5th Round on a score of 1 – 09 to 0 – 09

This was a keenly contested match played in bitterly cold conditions. Coolmeen started brightly with points from Ben Cleary & Cian Murphy. With the aid of the wind, Liscannor got on top & scored 4 points in a row, 2 from frees. Coolmeen responded with a pointed free from Kevin (Val) McMahon to reduce the margin. Liscannor once again pushed on & scored 2 points from frees before the break.

On the resumption Liscannor extended their lead with a point from play. Coolmeen scored a vital goal when wing forward Gary Meaney won a breaking ball before expertly dispatching the leather to the corner of the net. With this boost & wind advantage Coolmeen dominated possession & points from play by Cian Murphy, David Neenan & Eoin O’Connor regained the lead. Liscannor responded with 2 pointed frees before David Neenan scored 3 points from frees to give Coolmeen a 3 point advantage. In the closing stages Liscannor pushed forward in search of an equalising goal but the Coolmeen defence held firm for a deserved victory.
